RIIZE - "Love 119" MV Review
"Love 119" is Riize's second comeback and their 4th single after "Memories" (Pre-Debut), "Get A Guitar" (Review) and "Talk Saxy" (Review).
It's also their first comeback without Seunghan, who is currently on hiatus (I hope he returns to the group soon).
"Love 119" Review
To be sincere, the first time I listened to "Love 119" I didn't like the chorus at all, but now it has grown on me although I would have preferred that the chorus was more melodic instead of "chant" like (Edit: I take back what I wrote, the 119 part is stuck in my head and it fits perfectly with the song). I really liked the verses in this song though, especially Sungchan's at 1:07.
"Love 119" samples from an old Korean song "Emergency Room" by izi (OST from KBS's 2005 Kdrama Sassy Girl Chun-Hyang) and that helps in giving a ~nostalgic~ sound to the song.
The MV is magnificent I love winter stuff, so this music video is certainly right up my alley.
Aesthetically, the music video reminds me a lot of movies like "Love Letter" (a Japanese movie from 1995) and "Your Name" (a Japanese animated movie from 2016). I didn't understand the plot of the music video though ^^; Did the girl pass away and turn into a butterfly? Did her existence get erased after the meteor shower? It almost feels like an allegory of a funeral procession during the last scenes of the music video (the scenes where they walk through the snow in formation looking sad starting from 3:24).
The editing is superb; I love the transition from Sohee accidentally hitting the radio after throwing the tennis ball to his phone to Eunseok waking up on the train ﹘ it's so well done.
I have to give props to the person who chose the locations in this MV because they are beautiful. I love those shots at the mountain from 3:19 until the end.
By the way, Sohee is a great actor ﹘ he is very expressive.
(Edit from the future 💫: After watching Riize's MV Reaction and reading the messages in their website [which I should have read before ^^;] I now totally understand the music video)
Style-wise, the clothes are mostly school uniforms or streetwear, but it still looks good.
I really like the coat and scarf Shotaro wears at 1:21. That combination looks great, I totally would wear that.
When they are wearing long coats the Riize members look like the male leads of a coming-of-age movie like Anton's shot at 3:29.
I love everyone's hairstyle and color in this music video; Anton's new haircut and dye job is a total upgrade from the atrocity that was his hair during the "Talk Saxy" MV.
