Doh Kyung Soo (D.O) - "Popcorn" and "Mars" MV Review

Concept photo for Doh Kyung Soo "Mars" music video where he is riding a bike that has a lot of flowers behind.

Doh Kyung Soo (D.O) is a member of the Kpop boy group Exo. He debuted solo on July 26, 2021. On October 18, 2023 Kyung Soo left SM Entertainment and formed his own company with his manager named Company Soosoo.
"Popcorn" (pre-released on April 30) and "Mars" (title track) are the singles of his third mini album, Blossom.

"Popcorn"

All I can say (and this is no secret at all) is that Kyung Soo is my favorite Exo member. He has the voice that I love the most in the group and I love how he is also such a great actor, so I might sound a little bit biased when I say that I liked "Popcorn" a lot; I found it very bright and charming, but there is something that is driving me crazy about this song and it feels as if I'm rambling a bit but I swear that if you change the beginning of the song and put a piano and some bells instead and also change the mentions of spring to winter or Christmas this song is an absolute Christmas song (the chorus doesn't sound Christmassy, though). You might be wondering, "What even is she talking about?" and my point is that I... -ahem- WE need a new Exo Christmas album because Kyung Soo's voice was made for winter songs (actually, he sounds great in every song).

The MV is really adorable, I found myself smiling a lot while I was watching it, the only problem I found is that it left me craving some popcorn.
I liked the music video so much I made a lot of gifs, lol.

"Mars"

When I first saw the picture teasers for Blossom, I -for some reason- thought that the lead single was going to be a sad ballad, and I was glad when the MV teaser showed me otherwise. Although I have to say that I prefer "Popcorn", I quite liked "Mars" and I think that it sounds perfectly like it belongs to be played in a coffee shop. My favorite part of the song is the bridge at 2:29
Kyung Soo voice sounds smooth and as good as ever and fits the song like a glove.

I love how colorful and quirky the MV is. The story of the MV follows Kyung Soo trying to communicate with someone in space (Venus?) with a lot of colorful flowers and a bunch of very weird equipment (his headphone is made of a broken(? flip phone and some batteries). My favorite scenes of the MV are the ones where he is reading a soapy ring binder (I'm not sure if that is the name) in the bathtub and the scenes where he is riding the bike with the flowers which looks very pretty.

Style-wise, I like the outfit Kyung Soo wears throughout the majority of the music video. It consists of a sand-colored jacket with a white shirt, a yellow and blue necktie, and some ripped jeans, which fits the spring vibes very well.
