IVE - "Accendio" MV Review

"Accendio" is the second single of IVE's second Korean mini album IVE Switch -the first single, "Heya"(Review), was released on April 29 alongside the mini album-

When "Heya" came out, I was thinking of writing a review of the mini album, but sadly, it seems that lately, I have come down with an acute case of laziness, and to be sincere, I didn't enjoy the rest of the mini much 😅. However, I loved "Accendio" so much that I decided to just wait for the music video and write only about the singles instead. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed "Heya" a lot, but I have to say -or write- that I found "Accendio" to be even better than the previous song when I first listened to IVE Switch, so I decided to make a different post for this review.

"Accendio" is a song about magic, and the result is magical. 

I LOVE the little bell-like sounds that play during the later part of the first verse (at 0:22). I found that part to be the most magical. The chorus and post-chorus sound really great and are very catchy. I especially liked the "Ahh" that you can hear in the background at the post-chorus (you can hear it at 1:03). I love that this song has a dance break (or breakdown if you prefer it) at 2:28 and I'm happy that the part sounds really good.

The MV has a magical girl concept like Sailor Moon♡ or Sakura Card Captor. In the music video, the IVE members become magical girls after Gaeul steals a magic wand from a group of witches(? (also played by IVE). The girls receive a message that reads, "If you protect this magic wand until 12 AM, you will gain this magic force". After that, the IVE members have to protect the wand against their evil counterparts or doppelgangers at all cost...

I found the choreography to be better than the one of "Heya", and the fact that this song has a dance break helps a lot with that.

Style-wise, I loved the first magical girl outfits a lot, but my favorite was Rei's I think it has the best silhouette and also is the most anime-like outfit, especially the way it's styled with a golden heart-shaped brooch on the bow of the dress, which reminds me so much of Sailor Moon's transformation brooch. The second magical girl outfits are also very pretty. I prefer the second evil outfits to the first ones, they look more chic (do people still use the word chic? I never read anyone using it anymore...).
