Aespa "Armageddon" - MV Review

Image
Photo source: Aespa X (Twitter) account "Armageddon" is the lead single and one of the two title tracks (the other one being "Supernova" [ Review ]) for Aespa's first full album Armageddon. "Armageddon" Review Although "Armageddon" is not as catchy as "Supernova" on first listen, it has a lot of potential to get stuck in your mind, especially the "aw wayo wayo" and "bang chitty bang bang" parts. The song feels old-school, especially the melody you can hear throughout the song (for a better example, listen to the post-chorus at 1:10 ). It's like something I heard before in the early 00s but can't remember, and at the same time, the song feels very futuristic. I like the drum beat during the chorus; it sounds very nice, and the instrumental of the bridge ( 2:15 ) sounds truly magnificent. The last thing I have to add about the song is that Aespa's vocals are on point (like always). The MV feels like wat

SEVENTEEN: "Lalali" + "Spell" + "Cheers to Youth" - MV Review

Image
Photo source: Pledis/Namu Wiki Recently, Seventeen made a comeback with their latest  17 is Right Here,  which is a compilation album featuring 4 new songs. I have already reviewed the title track "MAESTRO" ( Review ). The other three songs are for their different teams, so I will also be reviewing those songs (albeit the reviews may be a bit shorter). The reviews will be in the order of the music video release.    Hip-Hop Team "Lalali" Review "Lalali" has a really catchy beat, and it has made its way into my mind, especially Wonwoo's part and Vernon's first verse. Although I didn't enjoy the first part of the pre-chorus, the second part saves it as it makes the pre-chorus better.   The MV is visually stunning -spoiler: they all are- although I didn't understand much of what was going on. I assume it was the Hip-Hop satirically showing us how cool they are. The parts of the MV with the human-shaped holes in the walls remind me of Junji Ito

NewJeans "How Sweet" (+ a short "Bubble Gum" review) - MV Review

Image
Photo source: NewJeans X (Twitter)  and ADOR/HYBE NewJeans (뉴진스) is a girl group from ADOR (a sub-label of HYBE) that debuted on July 22, 2022 and consists of 5 members: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein. "How Sweet" is the title track of their double single How Sweet  with "Bubble Gum" being the B-Side. "How Sweet" Review I have to be sincere and say that although I have liked previous releases by NewJeans ("Ditto" is my favorite song), I didn't like "How Sweet" a lot. I found the instrumental to be super loud and busy as if it was banging in my head and the vocals to be very monotonous through parts of the song, and in the chorus, it felt as if something was missing. The " toxic lover " parts are the ones that stand out the most in the song for me - maybe the full song will grow on me later -. The song would totally work for me if the instrumental was a little bit less loud. Although the MV is cute, it feels like

IVE "Accendio" - MV Review

Image
Photo source: Starship Ent. and  IVE Twitter (X) account. "Accendio" is the second single and second title track of IVE's new mini-album IVE Switch  -the first single, "Heya"( Review ), was released on April 29-  "Accendio" Review I really liked "Heya" a lot, but I have to say -or write- that I found "Accendio" to be even better than the previous song when I first listened to IVE Switch . "Accendio" is a song about magic, and the result is magical. I LOVE the little bell-like sounds that play during the later part of the first verse (at 0:22 ). I found that part to be the most magical. The chorus and post-chorus sound really great and are very catchy. I especially liked the "Ahh" that you can hear in the background at the post-chorus (you can hear it at  1:03 ). I love that this song has a dance break (or breakdown if you prefer it) at  2:28  and I'm happy that the part sounds really good. The MV has a magic

Aespa "Supernova" - MV Review

Image
Photo source: Aespa X (Twitter) account  and SM Ent. "Supernova" is a pre-release and one of the title tracks for Aespa's first full album,  Armageddon , coming out on May 27 ("Armageddon" is going to be the other title track). "Supernova" is Aespa first -real-* single of 2024 after the release of " Drama " ( Review ) on November 10,2023.  "Supernova" Review As I wrote before in my review of "Drama", I love almost every song by Aespa, and "Supernova" is not an exception. This song sounds like something you hear in a car commercial or a runaway show -especially in the MV scenes where Ning Ning is walking- and immediatly have to search for the song. I love the bass in the background throughout the song, and to be sincere, the whole instrumental is truly amazing. This song is so Aespa-coded that I loved every part of it -can't even choose my favorite part-. In this MV the Aespa members have new powers Karina ha

Doh Kyung Soo (D.O) "Mars" - MV Review

Image
Photo source: Company Soosoo on X (Twitter) After pre-releasing " Popcorn " ( Review ), Kyung Soo has now released "Mars", the title track and lead single of his third mini-album Blossom. "Mars" Review When I first saw the picture teasers for Blossom,  I -for some reason- thought that the lead single was going to be a sad ballad, and I was glad when the MV teaser showed me otherwise. Although I have to say that I prefer "Popcorn", I quite liked "Mars" and I think that it sounds perfectly like it belongs to be played in a coffee shop. My favorite part of the song is the bridge at 2:29 .  Kyung Soo voice sounds smooth and as good as ever and fits the song like a glove. I love how colorful and quirky the MV is. The story of the MV follows Kyung Soo trying to communicate with someone in space (Venus?) with a lot of colorful flowers and a bunch of very weird equipment (his headphone is made of a broken(? flip phone and some batteries). My fa

Doh Kyung Soo (D.O) "Popcorn" - MV Review

Image
Photo source: Company Soosoo on X (Twitter) Doh Kyung Soo (D.O) is a member of the Kpop boy group Exo. He debuted solo on July 26, 2021, on October 18, 2023 Kyung Soo left SM Entertainment and formed his own company with his manager named Company Soosoo. "Popcorn" is a pre-release for his -upcoming- third mini-album titled  Blossom.     "Popcorn" Review All I can say (and this is no secret at all) is that Kyung Soo is my favorite Exo member. He has the voice that I love the most in the group and I love how he is also such a great actor, so I might sound a little bit biased when I say that I liked "Popcorn" a lot; I found it very bright and charming, but there is something that is driving me crazy about this song as if I'm rambling a bit but I swear that if you change the beginning of the song and put a piano and some bells instead and also change the mentions of spring to winter or Christmas this song is an absolute Christmas song (the chorus doesn'
