Fifty Fifty - "Starry Night" + "SOS" MV Review (+ a short Love Tune Review)

Concept photo for Fifty Fifty second mini album, Love Tune. In the photo, Athena sits on the arm rest of a sofa, Yewon, Keena and Hana sit on the sofa, while Chanelle lies on the lap of Yewon, Keena and Hana.

Fifty Fifty (피프티 피프티) is a girl group from Attrakt which originally debuted on November 18, 2022.
The group formerly consisted of 4 members: Keena, Saena, Aran, and Sion. In the middle of 2023, after their song "Cupid" (which was released in February) went viral, the members filled for a contract termination against the company Attrakt in which members Saena, Aran, and Sion left the group, leaving Keena as the sole member of Fifty Fifty.
Now, Fifty Fifty is "re-debuting" with 4 new members joining Keena: Chanelle, Yewon, Hana, and Athena.
"Starry Night" was pre-released on August 30 and "SOS" is the title track of Fifty Fifty's second mini-album, Love Tune, released on September 20, 2024.
-I will review the songs in the same order they appear in the mini album (as two of the songs in the mini album are the English versions of "Starry Night" and "SOS" I will not be writting about them)-

"Push Your Love"

Teaser picture for Fifty Fifty second mini album Love Tune. In the picture, Athena, Keena, Hana, Chanelle and Yewon sit and stand around a dinner table that has some desserts on it.
Length: 3:00.
Lyrics: Maria Marcus, Yoon Ye-Ji, Lee Hyung-Suk (PNP), Jeong Chi-Li, Hyung-Geun, and Ha So-Ra.
Music: Blood Circle, Maria Marcus, and Ruby Beak.
Arrangement: Blood Circle.

"Push Your Love" is a sweet song, but I feel like it is a bit dull. The beat is super nice and I love the guitar and bass that appear throughout the song.
Although they are not similar, the intro of this song reminds me a bit of the intro of "Cupid"

Rating – 8/10

"Starry Night"

"Starry Night" is a beautiful song and when it was pre-released it worked as a great introduction for the new members. Everyone sounds great together and has their time to shine in this song. When I was about to listen to this song for the first time, I was afraid that Keena would get just a few lines, but I'm glad that she did not, as her voice sounds very lovely. The song's beat is charming and when combined with Fifty Fifty's voices, it makes "Starry Night" very easy on the ears.

The MV is cute and looks high quality/expensive. The editing of the music video is well done; I especially liked the editing at the start of the last chorus. I liked the chosen sets and the star/falling stars motif in the MV ﹘ they are super cute.

Style-wise, I liked the majority of the outfits, the exceptions being the "fun" outfits (especially Chanelle's tasseled cowboy hat and Yewon's skirt) and Keena's pink dress towards the end of the video (the bow in the back of the dress is almost as big as the whole dress).

"SOS"

"SOS" is a fantastic title track; I love everything about this song ﹘ it sounds so dreamy and soothing. I know I just wrote that I love everything about this song, but I especially love the beat and rhythm transition from the pre-chorus to the chorus and the synth used during the intro and the chorus, which, by the way, is super catchy.

The MV is gorgeous, and like "Starry Night," it also looks super high quality. I love the animated scene; it is so pretty, I love that during the scene where the members are sitting on the grass, you can see Athena and Chanelle holding some jellyfish ornaments(? that later appear floating above them during the animated scene.
I wonder what the goose that appears throughout the music video means...
This is a bit off-topic, but for some reason, In this music video I keep mixing up Chanelle and Hana even though they don't look alike 😅.

Style-wise, I love all the outfits. Yes, that includes the puffy princess-like dresses ﹘ I love the colors chosen. Every outfit in this MV is gorgeous; even the "plainer" outfits towards the end of the music video are so pretty.

"Gravity"

When I first listened to the highlight melody for Love Tune, "Gravity" was my most anticipated song (alongside "SOS"). However, I found the song a bit boring at the beginning, but as the song progressed it went from good to fantastic, especially during the bridge which is a masterpiece. Love it.

Rating – 10/10

Final Thoughts

Love Tune is a fantastic and very cohesive mini album. If I had to complain about something, it would be about how the songs in Love Tune are a tad short, with the longest song being just a mere 3:07, but that is what the majority of Kpop is like now.
I have to say that, while I didn't enjoy "Push Your Love" much (it's not even a bad song, maybe it just has to grow on me...), every song in Love Tune would be a great title track.

The English versions of "Starry Night" and "SOS" sound great, and the lyrics are fantastic.
I look forward to hearing Fifty Fifty's future releases, especially if they keep this dreamy sound. I hope they continue on a great path.

Overall Love Tune Rating – 9/10
