ILLIT Debuts With "Magnetic" - MV Review (+ a short Super Real Me review)

ILLIT is the new Kpop girl group of Hybe labels sub-label Belift Lab that debuted on March 25, 2024, and consists of 5 members (pre-debut 6): Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee and Iroha.  The members were chosen through the JTBC's 2023 survival show R U NEXT? 
"Magnetic" is the lead single of their first mini album, Super Real Me.

"My World"

"My World" is more like a prelude or a small window to the Super Real Me mini album than a real song. 
When the song ended, I was surprised by how quick the song went by; it turns out the song was only 1:47, which is crazy short.
Although "My World" is ultra short, it is actually a really good song. I just wish it was a bit longer...

"Magnetic"


"Magnetic" is a cute song that fits the group to a T and the chorus is super catchy. I have to say that I didn't like the "bae bae bae" part at 0:56. But I think it will end up growing on me.
I really liked the verse sung by Iroha at 0:14 and the pre-chorus at 0:32 and 1:25. 

The choreography is cute and fits the song very well.

I really liked the MV, but the best part is everything that happens after one of the girls punches a wall at 2:10. I also liked the part where Iroha makes the puzzle pieces float at 0:16.

Style-wise, everything looks pretty and quite matchy. My favorite outfits were the white and blue and the all-white ones. Of the white and blue outfits, I really liked Iroha's dress and Yunah's white shirt with the blue details and blue skirt, and from the all-white outfits, I liked Minju and Yunah's look.

Even from its title "Midnight Fiction" it's dreamy, but don't confuse dreamy with soft. 
I think it's a great slow down from the super energetic "Magnetic," yet the song doesn't fell dull or flat in comparison.

"Lucky Girl Syndrome"

"Lucky Girl Syndrome" has a very interesting beat and instrumental, and by interesting, I mean wonderful; I love the bass that appears all through the song.

Final Thoughts

Super Real Me is a super solid debut; I enjoyed all the songs in the mini. My favorite was the title song, "Magnetic," which feels the most "engaging" out of the 4, although I did like them all.
I look forward to Illit's next releases, especially if they continue with a similar sound, but I just hope that they get longer songs in the future.

Doh Kyung Soo (D.O) is a member of the Kpop boy group Exo. He debuted solo on July 26, 2021. On October 18, 2023 Kyung Soo left SM Entertainment and formed his own company with his manager named Company Soosoo.
