Ranking *all* of Girls' Generation (SNSD) solo debut songs.

Image
-I will not be counting SM Station songs- Yoona, Sooyoung, Tiffany Hyoyeon, Yuri, Taeyeon, Sunny and Seohyun Previously I ranked my top 5 SNSD dramas and now I'm ranking my favorite solo -official- debuts of all the Soshi members.   I was debating on putting Jessica's solo debut, but as she debuted after leaving SNSD, I decided against it. As of 2023, Sunny is the only member who hasn't debuted solo  7 - Yoona "To You"  "To You" was released on May 13th, 2018 and Yoona herself wrote the lyrics. Yoona's voice has improved a lot since her debut days, but this song doesn't really showcase how good her vocals are now. When I listen to this song while watching the MV it reminds me so much of Studio Ghibli, but when I listen to the song by itself it's quite boring. This song is great to listen to when you want to fall asleep or when you are traveling while watching some beautiful landscapes. 6- Sooyoung "Winter Breath" Sooyoung debute

Taeyeon - "To. X" MV Review

Image
Photo source: SM Ent. Kim Taeyeon is the leader of Girls' Generation who debuted solo with "I"  on October 7, 2015. "To. X" is the title track and lead single from her 5th Mini Album also titled  To. X. "To. X" Review This song took me by surprise as I thought from the teasers it was going to be more chill, like a coffee shop song. The song starts with a guitar riff that greatly accompanies Taeyeon's voice throughout and is quite catchy, to me it feels like the faster-paced cousin of "Rain" , which is my 2nd favorite Taeyeon solo ( "INVU" is 1st). In the music video, Taeyeon is shown as having a controlling and narcissistic boyfriend and noticing that the relationship is bad for her, so she metaphorically burns the house (the relationship) down. I loved all the upside-down shots, especially the one at 2:26  with Taeyeon looking at the projection of an upside-down city, but my favorite shot, the one that takes the cake, is the o

Red Velvet - "Chill Kill" MV Review

Image
Photo source: SM Ent. Red Velvet is an SM girl group that debuted on August 1, 2014 and originally consisted of 4 members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy, with the 5th member, Yeri, joining the group later in March 2015. Red Velvet is divided by concept: the red side are upbeat pop songs and the Velvet side are more moody R&B songs. "Chill Kill" is the title track and lead single from their 3rd album also titled Chill Kill. "Chill Kill"   Review "Chill Kill" took me by surprise because after watching the teasers and the trailer I thought the song was going to be a lot more moody than what we got. The press release says that "Chill Kill" is a "bright tragedy" and there are no better words to describe this song because as Joy wrote (on Bubble) the concept is neither Red nor Velvet is Red Velvet. My favorite part of the song is after the first chorus at 1:44  where Seulgi sings and it makes a great contrast with the happy chorus.  SM has

Aespa - "Drama" MV Review

Image
Photo source: SM Ent. Aespa (or  æspa ) is an SM girl group that debuted on November 17, 2020 and consists of 4 members Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning. "Drama" is the title track and lead single from their fourth Mini Album also titled Drama. "Drama" Review I've loved - almost - every release that Aespa has made -with the exception being "Forever" - (but that doesn't really count, no?), and "Drama" is just as good as the rest although the start was a little rough the song gets on a good track quickly. Aespa's vocals get greater as the song goes on, but this song probably wouldn't work as well if another group had sung it. The girls after leaving Kwangya (for an explanation of Aespa terminology, please refer to this Reddit post I found)   in "Girls"  are on the "Real World" , as seen in  "Spicy" and "Better Things" , but in "Drama" seem to be dealing with the trauma of thei
